2017 Heartland Bighorn 3970RD with five slide-outs!
The 2017 Bighorn 3970RD by Heartland is a large luxury fifth wheel designed more like a residential living space than a typical camper, stretching just over forty-three feet in length with a wide, tall profile and multiple slide-outs that dramatically expand the interior once set up.
It's built on a heavy-duty dual-axle frame with a high hitch weight, giving it the presence and towing requirements of a full-time or extended-stay rig rather than a lightweight travel trailer.
Inside, the defining feature is the rear den, which opens into a raised living room with large windows. This space includes opposing sofas, theater-style recliners, and an entertainment center with a large television (on a televator) and electric fireplace, creating a comfortable lounge area that feels more like a home living room than an RV. The elevation of the rear living area adds separation from the rest of the coach and gives it a more residential, open feel.
Moving forward, the central section features a spacious kitchen and dining area with solid-surface countertops, stainless-steel residential-style appliances, and an upgraded large refrigerator (as of 2025) with two icemakers!
The kitchen has ample cabinet storage, a pantry, and a freestanding dining table with chairs rather than a booth dinette, reinforcing the home-like atmosphere. This unit includes upgraded features such as convection microwaves, hardwood cabinetry, and LED lighting throughout.
The front portion of the coach houses the master suite, which has a king-size bed, large wardrobe storage, and a washer/dryer combo.
The bathroom is fully enclosed and features a residential-style shower with a glass enclosure, a skylight, and a porcelain toilet, again emphasizing comfort for long-term use rather than short trips.
With five slide-outs, the floorplan becomes very open when parked, allowing comfortable sleeping for around six people while still maintaining plenty of living space.
The unit is equipped with dual air conditioning systems, a high-capacity furnace, and sizable holding tanks to support extended camping or full-time living.
Underneath the unit, there is one spare tire and an option for an additional one.
The owners love features such as the large residential refrigerator, the television on its televator, and the ability to view streaming local and satellite capabilities.
A few more upgrades include an additional non-ducted AC (total of 3 ACs),
