For more than fifty years, the company in Red Bay, Alabama has built Class A motorhomes the way a family business builds them: hardwood cabinetry that still looks residential years later, a form-fitted seamless roof cap meant to last, and a service culture that answers the phone when something needs attention. The 2019 Allegro Open Road 36LA is that reputation in a gas coach you can actually drive and live in. It is not the cheapest Class A on the lot. At about 37 feet 6 inches, the 36LA sits on a Ford motorhome chassis with the proven 6.8-liter V10, 320 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, an 80-gallon fuel tank, and a 24,000-pound GVWR. Two slide-outs open the living space without making the coach feel oversized on the highway. Interior height is a full seven feet. Fresh water holds 70 gallons, gray 66, black 50, and LP 24. Basement storage is generous at roughly 203 cubic feet, so bikes, chairs, tools, and seasonal gear do not have to live in the aisle. Dual high-efficiency roof air conditioners, 50-amp service, and a quiet Onan generator keep camp comfortable whether you are hooked up or not.
The floor plan is why this model exists. The 36LA is the bath-and-a-half Allegro in the Open Road line, and that single choice changes how a couple or a small family actually uses the coach. A midship half bath keeps guests and morning traffic out of the master suite. The full rear bath has a residential-style shower, vanity, and storage so the private end of the coach stays private. Behind a pocket door, the bedroom slide holds a 60-by-80 queen with wardrobe space, overhead cabinets, and its own television. The installed washer-dryer units live where you want laundry to live: out of the way, not in the middle of the living room.
